About Gumbo + Gumbo Magazine:
Gumbo Magazine is a print publication by Gumbo Media, giving life to 176 pages of poetry, essays, short stories, art, comics, and photos from 80 talented emerging Black creatives around the world. The Magazine carries the aesthetic and weight of a coffee-table book—an artistic collector's item with heavy matte paper, a hardcover, and a "perfect spine" around which households, businesses, and community spaces can gather. Described as "a love letter to Black life," Issue 001: Black is a tactile exploration and archive of the expansiveness of Black life, celebrating the many corners and intersections of the Black experience, exploring the questions that shape Black identity, and highlighting the histories and discourses left unspoken.
Gumbo Media is a storytelling enterprise and creative ecosystem that nourishes and uplifts Black voices. Gumbo is two-fold, featuring an editorial arm for original storytelling, experiences, and products, and a services arm, featuring brand strategy and design across businesses of all sizes (mostly Black-owned). Their focus is on catalyzing the power within our communities.
